the city re-functioned

the city refunctioned – architectural intervention as city insert

whist the constructive technique of montage has been well established in the areas of artistic production, its exploration as a conspicuous conscious tool in relation to architecture and the city remains largely unexplored and its potential only hinted at. this thesis would theorise architectural production in this context. it would take the utopic declarations of early constructivist architecture on the social condenser and attempt to raise this concern to the level and scale of the city.  can architecture, conceived as a montaged city insert, raise its critical dimension and thereby extend the scope of an established technique in art practice to the realm of city refunctioning.
